I know many of you will not be able to understand how cleaning your house could be construed as something to savor but hear me out...
I get a real sense of accomplishment when I clean my house. It feels good to purge old/broken appliances, never worn or ill-fitting garments, electronics and even pantry items and donate, recycle, re-purpose or trash them. An orderly shelf or drawer is good for my soul!
Putting away the holiday decorations, while a time consuming chore, allows me to reflect on the season. Each treasure has a memory associated with it and by allowing myself to find that memory--I am able to savor an otherwise thankless chore. (Ever notice how you have plenty of help putting up decorations and little when it comes time to take them down?)
Cleanliness is next to Godliness and I like to take time to wipe down a baseboard, the ceiling fan or the inside of a drawer. Just makes me feel like the universe is a little bit more in order!
Lastly, I am thankful when I am intimately involved with my home. Thankful to have a roof over my head, to be safe and warm and dry. To have a home filled with love and laughter...all things to SAVOR every day!
