Savor a Winter Tree

Take a good look at a bare tree today.
Notice it's silhouette against the blue sky, the sunset or the grey of snow clouds.
They are beautiful works of art.

If you can get up close, notice the bark and how it feels.
Gaze into the canopy to see squirrel nest or left over birds nests.

How about acorns or chestnuts that may litter the ground beneath your tree? Or that lone leaf...still holding on in spite of the wind.

Driving to Work

I know, what could one find that is work savoring about the drive to work?
Thankfully, this is not my commute but I imagine it is for many of you!

Wild Life
This morning I saw 10 deer in the early morning light, dining on my neighbors acorns.  Some were intent on feeding but one was romping!  He looked like he was in for a good game of tag!
Something to savor.
Ever notice how deer are colored so that they are so easily lost in the winter forest, their fur blends perfectly among the bare trees.  Even their white tails help hide them in the snow.

Books on tape.
I took to listening to books on tape when the elections were in full swing back in November.  I just can't take hearing the same rhetoric over and over again for 6 weeks.
I also listen to my bible on tape which helps me prepare for Sunday School lessons.  So soothing to hear the Bible read by Max McClain

Pray or Meditate.  Enjoy the Quiet.
I can talk out loud and have about 30 minutes at both the beginning and end of the day to spend in solitude.

Savor Cleaning the House

I know many of you will not be able to understand how cleaning your house could be construed as something to savor but hear me out...

I get a real sense of accomplishment when I clean my house.  It feels good to purge old/broken appliances, never worn or ill-fitting garments, electronics and even pantry items and donate, recycle, re-purpose  or trash them.  An orderly shelf or drawer is good for my soul!

Putting away the holiday decorations, while a time consuming chore, allows me to reflect on the season.  Each treasure has a memory associated with it and by allowing myself to find that memory--I am able to savor an otherwise thankless chore.  (Ever notice how you have plenty of help putting up decorations and little when it comes time to take them down?)

Cleanliness is next to Godliness and I like to take time to wipe down a baseboard, the ceiling fan or the inside of a drawer.  Just makes me feel like the universe is a little bit more in order!

Lastly, I am thankful when I am intimately involved with my home.  Thankful to have a roof over my head, to be safe and warm and dry.  To have a home filled with love and laughter...all things to SAVOR every day!
